For one of our Shopify Academy platform rebrands, the theme focused on learning and discovery. The design had a mid-century retro feel to it, with nods to exploration and artifacts. It incorporated hand-drawn illustrations (marginalia) to bring a personal, human element to an online environment – and add moments of delight.
To carry the design ethos into our content, I created two variations of a character-based AI voice persona. The character was a university professor who embodied the voice and tone of our existing Academy and Shopify style guides with some additional human characteristics.
